Beginning in mid-2018, BMW will release vehicles that are integrated with Amazon’s Alexa. In the past, BMW had worked with Amazon to give Alexa various skills so that BMW and Alexa users could do things like check their tire pressure or fuel level from their app. Moving forward in 2018, BMW users will be able to use Alexa by connecting to the internet via the car’s built in SIM card.
When using Alexa, any relevant visual displays will appear on the infotainment display already in your BMW. Inside the vehicle, Alexa will be able to do things like set a timer, find your favorite playlist, even order you a pizza on the way home. Drivers will even be able to use third-party apps such as NPR and Starbucks with Alexa. Alexa is a very responsive speech recognition program as it is but to add to the user experience, BMW will be connecting multiple microphones throughout the vehicle to make the experience as driver friendly as possible.
