BMW Remote Start Stopped Working
Whether your BMW remote start feature was working and stopped or you just want to know how to activate the feature, this article should help. BMW’s with the remote start feature do not come from the factory with this feature activated and quite often after your vehicle gets a software update it will default back to “Off.”
Starting in 2018 BMW added over-the-air (OTA) software update functionality to some of its lineup. Since then BMW has continued to add OTA update capabilities to their vehicles. What’s OTA mean? Like many other devices we use in our daily lives (i.e. cell phones) newer BMW’s can update their software without going back to the dealership. BMW is constantly updating the many lines of code in their vehicles software to fix bugs and known concerns.
Before OTA these updates would be uploaded to your vehicle at the dealership. Lately we’ve seen a rise in people asking “why did my BMW remote start feature stop working?” In some cases the owner had accepted an over-the-air software update and the update defaulted the feature back to off. So while their car might have the latest and greatest software, the remote start feature no longer works.
Frustrating? Yes but also easy to fix.
Here’s the Step-by-Step Guide to activating Remote Start:
-
Go to the main menu on your iDrive screen
-
Select “Car”
-
Select “Settings”
-
Locate and select “Climate Control”
-
Select “Pre-Conditioning/Ventilation”
-
Select “Remote Start” and make sure to check the box to activate remote start
-
Pressing the lock button on your key 3 times quickly should start your vehicle remotely
-
