For regular drivers, BMW is already a leader in electric car technology with it’s BMW i8 and i3 electric cars. Is it possible that BMW will soon champion the Formula E world? This week, BMW confirmed that it’s participation in Formula E will change. Our beloved manufacturer will be fielding it’s own team for the 2018/2019 season, Formula E’s fifth season. Currently, BMW participates in Formula E in a partnership with the American team, Andretti Formula E. BMW and Andretti have been partnered since Formula E’s second season.

This new season of Formula E will be changing it’s own motorsport game as the vehicles used per race will change from the current, two cars per race down to one car per race. The teams in this next season of Formula E will be using a chassis supplied by Spark Technologies however the chassis is said to be moving towards a more futuristic look. They will also be using shared batteries provided by McLaren Applied Tehnologies however, each team will be responsible for their own powertrain, transmission, suspension, and software.

BMW has been very clear that as a company, both BMW Group and BMW Motorsport are fully committed to making this next venture for the company successful.
