A stratification wheel is a small wheel in your BMW that you might not even notice. If you are not paying attention, you might miss it because it can blend in so well. Chances are, you’ve only discovered your stratification wheel after you’ve come into the service department asking why your heat is on blast but only frigid air is coming out towards your face. The stratification wheel allows you to temper the air flow from the vent’s outlets by adding heating or cooling as desired. When you turn the wheel towards blue, it makes for colder air. When you turn the wheel towards red, it makes for warmer air.

The automatic climate control that your vehicle may be equipped with controls the temperature of the cabin air. The idea behind the stratification wheel is that it could provide a warmer or cooler flow of air to either your face or feet while driving.
